Mormon “Rap” and the Destruction of White, Western, Mormon Culture

Update (3.19.17)

“Let’s face it. Hip-hop culture deadens the drive toward civility and legitimizes backwardness. It is high time the general public comes to terms with the social damage it perpetuates. If not, we can all count on yet another inner-city generation suffering from wasted potential.” – Jeffrey Hicks, member of national advisory council of the black leadership network Project 21.

When I wrote this blog I was used to a small readership, but since this post has gone viral I decide to add some additional citations for the destruction rap music causes to culture. I’ve added two here in the front and added links in the highlighted text. I have also added quotes from Prophet Benson’s 1971 General Conference talk “Satan’s Thrust.” These quotes are in bold lettering, otherwise I have left the text as it was originally published.

Geraldo Rivera: Hip-Hop Is ‘Very Destructive Culturally’
“Hip-hop has done more damage to black and brown people than racism in the last 10 years,” talk show host tells HuffPost Live

Rap and Hip Hop: A legitimate music genre or self destructive noise?

If you want to see the future of Mormonism look no further than the rapper James the Mormon. Just as inner city Chicago used to be full of hard working, Christian, Poles, Germans and Irish but is now overrun with black, ghetto culture, it seems Mormonism and Utah are the next target for cultural destruction and what’s worse, the Mormons themselves are welcoming it.

“The devil-inspired destructive forces are present in our literature, in our art, in the movies, on the radio, in our dress, in our dances, on the TV screen, and even in our modern, so-called popular music. Satan uses many tools to weaken and destroy the home and family and especially our young people. Today, as never before, it seems the devil’s thrust is directed at our youth.”

About a year or so ago I heard about this rapper James the Mormon. I heard he had put out a rap/hip hop album and that many famous Mormons, such as Al Fox, were featured in his video. While he is clear that he is not a religious singer, he does not sing about his faith, Mormons readily accepted James as if he were the Mormon version of Christian rock, only edgier. After being raised in a system which taught them that all things white and western were evil and boring, white Mormons were thrilled they could throw their hands in the air like they just don’t care and get their groove on to secular music with none of the guilt. Truly this would finally make white Mormons “cool” to all those non whites they desperately seek approval from.

This would certainly prove their street cred.

I only saw a preview of the video at first. I posted about it on Facebook, how we need to watch our cultural influences and while James may not cuss or rap about sex (at least not yet) it was promoting violent, inner city thug culture and it’s lack of traditional values. It was also erasing our strong Mormon musical culture. My friends insisted it was just for fun and no harm would come from it.

“Music creates atmosphere. Atmosphere creates environment. Environment influences behavior. What are the mechanics of this process?”

I wonder if inner city Chicago thought their first few thugs with sagging pants and rap music were “fun” and “colorful?”
Flash forward to last Sunday, I’m sitting in church when I notice a poster for an upcoming Mormon Youth event. Two church elders were scheduled to speak, that sounds right, but what was this? Performing at this conference was James the Mormon? Seriously? This had gone from fringe, Mormon, funzies to a church SPONSORED performer in less than a year? I was appalled.

“The Church must not compromise standards before popular demands.”
I asked my 13 year old if he had heard about this. He had been his usual dreamy self and not thought to register. “I don’t think you should go.” I cautioned. He agreed.

“All is not well in Zion. The inspired Book of Mormon prophets saw this day and, as watchmen on the towers, issued grave warnings. I quote:

“For behold, at that day shall he [the devil] rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.

“And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell.

“And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance. …

“Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!

“Wo be unto him that crieth: All is well!

“Yea, wo be unto him that hearkeneth unto the precepts of men, and denieth the power of God, and the gift of the Holy Ghost!” (2 Ne. 28:20–22, 24–26.)”

At this point I watched the full video. Oh my, it was worse than I ever imagined…

Later I decided to look this guy up. Did his influence go beyond rap music to promotion of bad ideas? Oh my, yes! A quick peak at his Twitter feed showed a man, whom while I believe him to be sincere in his faith, is a horrific influence for the Mormon community and youth.

“There must needs be opposition in all things. Freedom of choice is a God-given eternal principle. To escape Satan’s snares and booby traps by following the Lord is our assignment. It is not an easy one.”

He promotes Beyoncé to the youth saying she “runs the world” and “thank you for all that you do.” And what is it that Beyoncé does for our culture? She promotes this…

(Caution, these lyrics are dirty and unedited)

Who wants their child, or even adult for that matter, to idolize a rapper who idolizes this woman?

“Freedom, a word of noble tradition, is a favorite confuser. Riots, bombings, arson, and killings are committed in the name of freedom. Obscenities test the freedom of speech. Pornography, drugs, and immorality are claimed to be manifestations of personal freedom, along with miniskirts and nudity. License and anarchy are products of these false freedoms.”

He regularly retweets an account called Jack the Jew which takes cheap shots at the President, calling him dumb and incompetent. A very bad civic role model for youth.

He is pro refugee (actually, economic migrants) and regularly tweets in support of bringing more refugees into our country despite the increase in terrorism, crime, rape, murder and disease.

He regularly tweets about his support of lowering modesty standards for women in the church urging them to show more skin and for other people not to judge this even though Mormon modesty standards are specifically tied to what the Lord has directly asked of us and not to Mormon culture.

“Ridicule works well in collaboration with confusion. To confuse youth in its searching years, the cynic defends his degeneracy by ridiculing his critics with confusing metaphors.”

He promotes liberal sites like NPR who in turn promote illegal immigration and the changing of America’s  demographics.

Here I think he was trying to say the right thing but his emotional, anti white, blind spot shows. He features a news story of a white man who was driving down the street, being pulled from his car by black people and beaten severely while they yelled racist, anti white remarks at him. James’ reaction to this story is “no side is innocent.” Really? What exactly did this man who was beaten do? I would honestly like to know how he was NOT innocent.

In addition he promotes Shaun King, shown in the tweet above. Shaun King is a white man who pretends to be black, who promotes the terrorist organization Black Lives Matter who are responsible for multiple attacks on whites around the country, for rioting, theft, and vandalism and for actually killing police officers. After a Mormon rap concert do you want your child going on James’ Twitter and being exposed to Shaun King tweets and ideologies that promote the killing of police?

At this point I had scrolled through his Twitter only a few months worth and I had had enough. It’s not that I don’t think that James is a faithful member of the church with the best intentions, he probably is, but the problem is he promotes degeneracy of western values, morals and culture. And why not? James, like most of us, was raised in an education system and culture which told us all cultures are valuable. Thug, ghetto, rap culture is held up as being perfectly equal with white, suburban culture. We are told there is no difference and to see a difference is racist but I’m sorry there IS a difference!

“The philosophy of relativism attacks the eternal principles of truth. The relativist will say, ‘If one sees filthy implications in a popular song, it is because he has a dirty mind.’ The logic of this philosophy finds its fallacy in the word implications. No filth is implied in many of the lyrics. It is proclaimed.”

Equality of cultures is a false God. What Beyoncé raps about is not morally equal to Amy Grant or Taylor Swift. Black Lives Matter isn’t just a group of black people with liberal opinions, it is a violent, terrorist organization who have carried out violent acts of murder. Modesty is better than immodesty, it simply is. Attacking the president personally and not on policy is not how civilized people behave.

All things are not equal and the culture and values promoted by James the Mormon do not reflect what is best for Mormon youth. He should not be given promotion within our homes or church.

“Yes, ‘There comes a time when the general defilement of a society becomes so great that the rising generation is put under undue pressure and cannot be said to have a fair choice between the Way of Light and the Way of Darkness.’

God grant that we as parents and leaders of youth may have the power and the good common sense to give them “a fair choice,” I humbly pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.”

Alternatives to MLK Day

For many of us we feel uncomfortable celebrating Mrtin Luther King Jr day. We have done the research and we know that the famed MLK was a communist, who kept the company of prostitutes and plagerized his “I Have A Dream Speech” from Archibald Carey.
So this weekend while the rest of America is celebrating MLK we can use this time off to celebrate some of our heroes, heroes of the European people. Heroes who liberated our ancestors from the slavery of Arab rule in Europe. Here are some suggestions of historical figures along with coloring pages you can print out for your kids.

Godfrey had the dream that Jerusalem would be liberated from crushing Muslim rule and that the mass slaughter of Christian pilgrims would end. He saw that dream come true when he led the first crusade and retook Jerusalem.

Godfrey of Bouillon (1060 – 1100) was a medieval Frankish knight who was one of the leaders of the First Crusade from 1096. He was the Lord of Bouillon from 1076 as well as the Duke of Lower Lorraine from 1087. After the successful crusade to Jerusalem in 1099, Godfrey became the first Christian ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem after the Muslim explosion. He did not want to be called King, because he believed that the true King of Jerusalem was Christ. He used instead the title Advocate (protector or defender) of the Holy Sepulchre (Latin: Advocatus Sancti Sepulchri).

Charles Martel was the prince and duke of the Franks. He was born sometime in the 680s and died in 741. Charles united Gaul and most importantly beat back the Arab forces that were advancing into Western Europe. At the famous Battle of Tours he showed great leadership and skill and liberated Europe from the oppression and brutality of Arab invasion.

Alexander II, 1818 – 1881, was the Emperor of Russia. He was also the King of Poland and the Grand Duke of Finland. Alexander was the most successful Russian reformer since Peter the Great. His most important achievement was the emancipation of serfs in 1861, for which he became known as Alexander the Liberator. Living up to his liberator title he went on to give indepedance to Finnland and to kick the Muslims out of Bulgaria, freeing the Bulgarians from brutal Arab oppression they had suffered for 500 years.

15 Day Scripture Reading Challenge

As we embark on a new year I thought I would create a 15 day scripture reading challenge we could do together! The theme is “Learning to Trust God.” No matter what this year has in store for us, joy, heart ache, challenges or ease – placing our hopes and hearts into God’s wise hands is the BEST frame of reference we can have for the start of a new year!

The idea is super simple. From January 10th to January 25th we will be reading and reflecting upon one chapter of scripture. Within every chapter is a gem of wisdom pertaining to our theme. Once you have read the chapter feel free to get out your journal or just relax and reflect on scriptures using the T.R.A.D. method.

T – Theme. What was the theme of this chapter? What was it about?

R – Related verse. Choose a verse that stood out to you regarding this theme. Write it down or recite it.

A – Application. How do the theme and it’s related verse apply specifically to your life?

D – Do. What can you do to apply this chapter’s lessons to your life?

My Homemaking Schedule

homemaking1

I learned a while ago that the best way to keep a household on task is to have a cleaning schedule both for daily tasks and weekly tasks. I wrote this up recently. I needed to make a few changes to our current routine as I prepare for baby number six. This is what I expect myself and the children to get done daily. I post it on our fridge where they can read it. usually my oldest will assign tasks to his younger siblings when it comes to what daily deep cleaning they are doing and typically everyone has three deep cleaning tasks to do daily.

I pair my children up, one “Big” with one “Little.” Currently the two oldest boys, ages 13 and nearly 10, are buddied up with one of our two youngest, ages 4 and 2. Our 6 year old is responsible just for himself. This shifts as they shift age. The Little rotates every other day so the same Big doesn’t always have the same Little, with a day off on Sunday. So, for example, my 13 year old is paired with my 4 year old Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while he’s paired with the two year old on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The pine cones referred to are a pine cone I keep in each room and our shoe cupboard. We put essential oil on them everyday, in every room. The kids get a kick out of picking the oil scent, or blend for that day. Since it’s cold and flu season we have been using a blend of eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary and tea tree oil.

Santa Lucia Day!

My favorite European, or white, tradition of all time is St. Lucia Day! I wait all year for this! I also waited 9 years to have a daughter who could be our family’s Lucia! The darkness of winter has descended and now a lovely woman brings us the light in her golden crown. She seems to be at once both angel, Goddess, Saint, Wife, mother, sister and daughter. A celebration of purity, innocence and the divine feminine.

Unfortunately, like so many European holidays, Santa Lucia Day has been accused of being too “white” or too “European” and offensive to Muslims. That combined with declining interest from Nordic youth who have been told globalism is to be preferred to local traditions, Santa Lucia Day and its traditional prossesions, baked goods and church choirs are fading fast. I encourage you to think about celebrating this holiday in your home to keep it alive.
God bless and God Jul!

Liberal Minorities Quickly Take to Twitter to Blame White People and Trump for the North Carolina GOP Firebombing

Liberals didn’t waste much time today. Within an hour of the news story finally hitting the main stream press, many took to Twitter to immediately blame the victims, Trump and/or white people.

An inside job? In a city of 50% minorities, which votes 3/4 democrat and has a crime index 3 times the national average? Not bloody likely.

This self described black communist threw around some words he picked up in a humanities 101 class to show his support of the bombing.

Karina here doesn’t feel even a little bit bad for the act of assault and violence.

Mr. Diaz wants to blame not only Trump supporters for bombing their own building but also Russia?

In more “she was asking for it” style rape victim blaming Miss Ronda thinks Trump’s assumptions that his opposition is responsible makes him and his supporters “unhinged.”

Oh Keith, we believe you when you say you’re no expert, unless you claim to be an expert in anti white racism, then we’ll believe you.

Another Diaz, another blame whitey. Notice how “white” is all in caps.
I’m sure this is only the beginning as we will see continued use of this fire bombing to attack whites and conservatives.

Columbus Was A Hero

“I ordered that everyone [the natives] be treated honorably because they are the best and gentlest people in the world…”

-Christopher Columbus
Columbus has become a very controversial character in history. Some adore him but it seems as if these days most people think he was anywhere from very bad to completely evil.
All the information and misinformation had me confused for years. First, I liked him, then I hated him. He’s the perfect fall guy for the current social trend to hate all things Christian, white and male.
So who was he? Saint or sinner? Before I could present a Columbus day narrative to my children I HAD to know the truth, or as close to the truth as I could reasonably get.

So here it is. My best assessment of Christopher Columbus and I must say that where my research took me was not somewhere I expected to go.
I went into this project thinking, “OK, he was probably bad but was he that bad? You know, ear cutting, slave taking, cold blooded murderer that some pieces would make him out to be- bad?” and I ended up coming out at the other end of my research thrilled to have studied him!
I can honestly say he truly was a very brave, smart and faithful man. His journal logs were so inspiring that I’ve decided to make his entire log book mandatory reading for my boys as they come of age.
I would even venture to call him a “hero.”
I know that’s a bold statement in today’s world. No doubt what happened AFTER Columbus was terrible for the Native peoples. As the Spanish came and eventually the migration to North America of the Europeans, millions of Natives lost their lives to European disease and slave labor.
Despite the fact that millions of Europeans found refuge in a New World and had their lives saved from religious prosecution and death in Europe, it cannot excuse what happened to the Natives of Central and North America and even though Columbus was not really the first to “discover” these areas nor did he personally exploit them (he died in poverty) others used Columbus’ research and discoveries in an indefensible way.
Not all of those indefensible actions, however grave, can be laid upon the shoulders of a man who died only 14 years after he found this New World.
So let’s get some of the “ugly” out in the open. Columbus is accused of horrible acts. He is accused of enslaving the native population onto farming plantations during his 3rd visit to the islands. Men, women and children died by the thousands during his reign as governor of this territory.
Did those thousands die of cruel treatment, or did they die of disease? Some most likely died of cruel treatment during his governorship and we know countless people lost their lives to European diseases. This is fact.
What is not fact however is how Columbus or his brothers, who were ruling with him, treated the natives. All of the negative accounts of Columbus’ treatment of the natives comes from, or was gathered by, one man. Just one and he was not unbiased.
His name was Francisco de Bobadilla. Bobadilla was sent to check up on Columbus. After only a few days Bobadilla had Columbus and his brothers returned to Spain in chains without a chance to offer a defense.
Christopher wrote to a friend at court…
“It is now seventeen years since I came to serve these princes with the Enterprise of the Indies. They made me pass eight of them in discussion, and at the end rejected it as a thing of jest. Nevertheless I persisted therein … Over there I have placed under their sovereignty more land than there is in Africa and Europe, and more than 1,700 islands … In seven years I, by the divine will, made that conquest. At a time when I was entitled to expect rewards and retirement, I was incontinently arrested and sent home loaded with chains … The accusation was brought out of malice on the basis of charges made by civilians who had revolted and wished to take possession on the land … I beg your graces, with the zeal of faithful Christians in whom their Highnesses have confidence, to read all my papers, and to consider how I, who came from so far to serve these princes … now at the end of my days have been despoiled of my honor and my property without cause, wherein is neither justice nor mercy”
Once in Spain Columbus and his brothers went before the King’s court and where they were acquitted of the charges. They were allowed to return to the islands but Columbus could not be governor any longer. Meanwhile Bobadilla had established himself as governor.
So, what are the facts here? Did Bobadilla have reason to arrest Columbus? Yes, he wanted Columbus’ job and he got it! Did the King and Queen have reason to acquit Columbus yet not reinstall him as governor? What kind of verdict was that anyway -he was guilty enough not to be governor but too innocent for jail?
Seems odd.
But you see, under the Capitulation’s of Santa Fe, the Spanish Crown owed Columbus 10% of the wealth found in the New World. So, of course when he asked for his retirement money, an old man with severe arthritis, they said “Nope, sorry, remember, we had to let you go.”
Convenient.
Like an old time cop drama “He was just two weeks away from retirement!!!”

But why when reading this history do I give Columbus so much benefit of the doubt? Because I read his logs. Whether or not he acted perfectly in every situation after reading his logs upon his first discovery of the New World I can safely say I know what his intent was.
He wanted to convert them, not kill them.
You see Columbus was a deeply religious man who had two goals, spread his faith and get gold for the court who funded his trip.
“But maybe he was trying to convert them through force?” some might ponder.
Columbus wrote in his logs on October 12, 1492 “I know they [the natives] are people who can be made free and converted to our Holy Faith more by love than by force.”
In his logs he was always looking for gold but he had nothing but love and honor for the native people.
He wrote, “They are very well-built people, with handsome bodies and fine faces.” October 12, 1492
“They traded everything with goodwill, but it seems to me that they have very little and are poor in everything. I warned my men to take nothing from the people without giving something in exchange.” October 12, 1492
Columbus gave strict orders to his men to treat the natives with the utmost respect. When they rowed ashore to an island and found that the villagers had fled their homes Columbus ordered his men not to touch or take anything from the Native’s abandoned homes.
“I ordered that everyone [Natives] be treated honorably because they are the best and gentlest people in the world…”
“I gave them [Natives] glass beads, brass rings and hawks’ bells, not because they asked for anything but because it seemed to me to be the right thing to do…” December 21, 1492
“…I do not believe there is a better people or a better country. They love their neighbors as themselves, and they have the softest and gentlest voices in the world and are always smiling.” December 25, 1492
During his travel among the islands many of the native people told Columbus of some tribes on nearby islands that committed horrible murders, slaughters and were cannibals. They even showed him men from their tribe with chunks of flesh torn from their bodies and told Columbus it was the cannibals who had done it.
Columbus did not believe them and still attempted to visit all the islands and natives that he could on his travels, which to me means two things. First, that Columbus was very brave and second, that there may have been natives in the area that Columbus later had to defend himself against in a violent way.
Perhaps Columbus abandoned his faith and began slaughtering the Natives later in life? Not likely. Records from his son show us that Columbus, who already praised the Lord every few sentences in his early journals, only grew MORE devout and faithful in his advancing age.

Conclusion and citations…
The issue is this: we may never know the full truth of who exactly Columbus was and what role he played in the deaths of the native peoples of America but that is no reason to demonize Columbus. There are far more historical evidences of his virtues than of anything else.
I do invite you however to read Columbus’ personal logs. You can find them in The Log of Christopher Columbus by Robert H Fuson, PhD (complied by the National Geographic Columbus Project 1986) from which I derived most of this information. After considering many Columbus resources I found this to be the one which would give the best historical accuracy. I also cited Samuel Eliot Morison, Admiral of the Ocean Sea: A Life of Christopher Columbus p. 576.

Not Really Halloween, How My Family Celebrates

My family has been transitioning away from Halloween for a few years now. Halloween has become so dark and demonic I simply couldn’t rationalize it anymore but my biggest problem was what could we transition onto? I still wanted to enjoy autumn, pumpkins, and dressing up. I wanted to avoid witches, Devils, ghosts, and any other ghoulish happening.

A few years back we gave up movies such as Hocus Pocus and Halloween Town for their promotion of witches, death and sorcery. We stopped going to the seasonal Halloween store. I stopped allowing my children to dress up as anything demonic, spooky, ghostly or scary. These were some of my favorite all time movies and activities since childhood so letting them go was really hard but everytime I went to scripture I was convicted over and over that these things were not Godly.
“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” 1Cor 10:21
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty” 2Cor 6:14-18

There are dozens more scriptures, you can find them here. Unfortunately for me and my favorite holiday, scripture is crystal clear on this point. You cannot celebrate a modern American Halloween and be in line with God’s teachings.

This year I have discovered a way to celebrate my favorite holiday in a new way, Reformation Day! October 31st is the day that in 1517 Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 Theses to the church door and sparked not only the Protestant revolution but a reforming attitude that bled into social and political spheres creating the path for us to shake off the unholy restraints of rituals and find the truth of God in a direct way.

Sola scriptura (“by Scripture alone”)
Sola fide (“by faith alone”)
Sola gratia (“by grace alone”)
Solus Christus (“Christ alone”)
Soli Deo gloria (“glory to God alone”)
What an amazing, positive, God-filled alternative to Halloween! I’m in love! So yesterday I got cracking on creating a Reformation Day binder that we read as a family each night of October as we count down to October 31st. The emphasis is on scripture as well as the beautiful autumn season God, in His wisdom, created.

Each evening we read a scripture verse about autumn, seasons, harvesting, or another related topic. We read a poem or short story about autumn and then a quote by Martin Luther.
I cannot express how amazingly satisfying this experience has been! Here is what our binder looks like.

In my romanticized mind this is how it looked when Martin nailed his theses to the door- surrounded by fall foliage.

This is the back of the binder. The door image is not mine, I found it on google images but I added the bats and pumpkins. Now before you think bats are demonic that is not my meaning with this image. I’m not referencing vampires, I’m reflecting the very REAL autumn time bat issue we have where we live. In our natural surroundings the bats come out in the late summer and early autumn evenings looking especially for water and will swirl around your head, unafraid, as they dip into your backyard pool or pond for a drink.

Here is an example of one day’s entry. Hopefully in the future I will add songs for each day and as the month progresses I will be using Little House on the Prairie stories about autumn in place of the poems to change it up from time to time.

I have so many ideas! Examples of autumn themes I intend to include both in our binder but also in our home decorations and celebrations, which are Christian friendly are…
