Christianity: A light for this dark world

As we are reading through The Benedict Option by Red Dreher for the month of August  this particular passage of text stood out to me.

Christians know that there is one light that the darkness can neither comprehend nor overcome and it is the, and it is that Light to Whom we must return if we are going to make it through this time of trial. The Light, Jesus Christ, who illuminated the monasteries of the Middle Ages and all those who gathered around them. – Page 47

After reading this part of the book I started reflecting on the state that we find the world as a whole in today and the beacon of light that Christianity represents. Which in turn reminded me of a scripture from the Gospels.

In John 8:12 we read

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

As Christians we should reflect the light and love of Christ wherever we go in our travels. This world is the darkest it has ever been and has never been more in need of Jesus Christ and what he represents.

Please continue to be strong and strong pillars of light in your communities. It is only by our combined efforts can we truly turn the darkness of this world back to the light we once had.
